A former Overton County sheriff's officer and the former administrator of the jail there will serve prison time for the severe beating of an inmate.

Former Overton County Jail Administrator Michael Gilpatrick was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Nashville to nine years in federal prison and three years of supervised release.

Former Lieutenant James Loftis was sentenced to 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

A jury in October found Gilpatrick guilty of willfully violating the civil rights of inmante Ricky Allen Beaty.

Prosecutors say Gilpatrick conspired with Loftis to arrange for other inmates to assault the victim, who was left with severe injuries and had four teeth knocked out.
