Prisoner dies of apparent suicide

Pierre A former Rapid City man killed himself at the South Dakota State Penitentiary Thursday. Allan Hannah, 33, was hospitalized after he was found unresponsive in his cell.

Hannah was originally sentenced to five years in prison in 1996 for grand theft out of Pennington County and later convicted of escape in Minnehaha County and grand theft in Lincoln County after walking away from a Sioux Falls minimum security unit in 1998. He received additional sentences of nine years for escape and five years with four years suspended for the grand theft conviction.
