Medical Neglect-Inmate Died
My son Daniel S. Dewberry , inmate at the Atlanta Penitentiary died from lack of medical attention. He became sick the first of March,08. He was told he had the flu, they gave him aspirin and was told to drink fluids.
During the month his health declined to the point he was delirious and could not walk without assistance. His cell mate tried to feed him food. Inmates and a few guards tried to get my son help but was told to tell the F----- to stay in bed and drink fluids.
March 10th my son called me with the help of his friends holding him up, he told me if he didn't get help he would die. These where the last words I heard my son speak. He was taken to South Fulton hospital March 12 and died March 15th from blood clots in the lungs.
My son suffered horribly for days. He was verbally abused also. I received a phone call the afternoon of the 15th and was ask when was the last time I spoke to Daniel, I told him a couple of days before. He was I hate to tell you but Daniel is dead.....cold, heartless, no compassion and this was the chaplain that called!!!!!!
M God help the inmates that are under to care and supervision of such cold uncaring people. I have heard from inmates that knew what happened to my son and they have expressed fear of it happening to them. I don't know what to tell them......except I have a lawyer to hopefully change some things for them.
I also
have Sen. Saxby helping me. For your information. For your
