TRAVIS COUNTY
57-year-old inmate dies in jail
An inmate at the Travis County Correctional Complex died in her cell Saturday, sheriff's officials announced Monday.
About 5 a.m., Blynda Loy Brooks, 57, of Austin, was found unresponsive in her cell, the sheriff's office said. Paramedics were called, but Brooks was pronounced dead about an hour after she was found, the sheriff's office said.
Brooks had been in jail since Sept. 25 on a misdemeanor criminal trespass charge. Bail was set at $2,000.
No foul play is suspected. The Travis County medical examiner's office is waiting on test results, such as toxicology tests, before they determine a cause of death, the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office internal affairs unit and major crime unit will conduct separate investigations into the death, as part of the department's policy. AUSTIN
