A 44-year-old former Gatesville state prison guard was being held
Wednesday night in the Coryell County Jail, charged with violating
the civil rights of an inmate.
Eddie James Davis was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail, according
to the county’s Web site.
Davis was arrested Tuesday afternoon by the Coryell County Sheriff’s
Office in the case being investigated by the Office of the Inspector
General, which acts as an internal affairs division for the Texas
Department of Criminal Justice.
Michelle Lyons, a TDCJ spokeswoman, said that from September 2007 to
September 2008, Davis was a correctional officer at the Crain Unit.
Crain is an all-female unit with a capacity of 1,500 inmates, Lyons
said.
Details of the alleged offense were not available Wednesday.
